Machine Learning: The Bassline
From mental health services for refugees to smart bins that monitor waste in cities, artificial intelligence is bringing about the next economy.
When machines can think like we do, it brings huge promise for what that means for the betterment of humanity. They can liberate us from the menial tasks computers are better at doing, so we can invest our time in solving global problems and creating relationships. They can offer us better precision, and they can collate information as wide and beyond as the entire Internet to help us make better decisions.
Machine learning is a type of articifial intelligence that happens when a 'thing' can define its own scope based on the data it collects. As with self-driving cars, they themselves can figure out the right or wrong course of action.
Machines: now with ethics.
We no longer need to teach a machine every single rule it needs to do something for us. Instead, we let it learn. We give it examples by feeding it hundreds of millions of songs, and it learns what songs we like. We show it a billion pictures of giraffes, and it understands what deformities look like.
To develop computers to be able to make decisions that benefit humanity, we need to get them to think like us: what do we perceive as right and wrong? How do we separate impulse from consideration? How do we make snap judgements and prioritise our needs? That's why we're mapping the human brain to build better machines. And that's what 'neural mapping' is all about. Hit it:
NEURAL MAPPING
It might seem crazy what I’m ‘bout to say
Robots are learning how to think and play
They can understand what actions we want them to take
But to start we gotta map some neural pathways
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you feel like machines can learn things from you
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you feel like they can help us do what we want to do
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you know what binary’s evolved into
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you know what some creativity can brew
Here come good news from around the place
Nigerian drones help farmers irrigate
Smart bins in Colombia monitor waste
And autonomous cars are making driving safe
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you feel like algorithms know when patterns occur
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you feel like it’s no cause for concern
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you know what a nightmare old computers were
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you feel like now big data can change the world
Let’s talk about
The economics
Let’s talk about
How basic income will fly
Let’s take a break
Yeah all you workaholics
Let’s take a break
And give relationships time
(Mapping, mapping, mapping, mapping)
Let’s talk about
The economics
(Mapping, mapping, mapping, mapping)
Let’s talk about
How basic income will fly
(Mapping, mapping, mapping, mapping)
Let’s take a break
Yeah all you workaholics
(Mapping, mapping, mapping)
Let’s take a break
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you know that machines recognise your words
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you know that’s what happens when you Google search
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you’ve ever asked Siri what she does after work
(Neural mapping)
Clap along if you learned that machines can make their sassiness heard
